Nigerian Guild of Editors Holds 21st National Conference in Abuja

 

The Nigerian Guild of Editors has concluded its 21st annual conference in Abuja, bringing together top editors and media executives from across the country. The 21st All Nigerian Editors Conference (ANEC) held from Wednesday, 12th November to Thursday, 13th November 2025, featured the theme “Democratic Governance & National Cohesion: The Role of Editors” and the sub-theme “Electoral Integrity and Trust Deficit: What Nigerians Expect in 2027.”

The conference was declared open by President Ahmed Tinubu at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Aso Rock. In his remarks, the President acknowledged the vital role editors play in strengthening democratic institutions and shaping national discourse.

Activities for the second day shifted to the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Conference Centre in Jahi, Abuja. Participants engaged in multiple sessions featuring thought-provoking papers that examined Nigeria’s development challenges and the media’s role in addressing them.

A major highlight of the event was the special recognition and honour conferred on Chief Onyema Ugochukwu, pioneer President of the Guild and former Editor of the Daily Times. The gesture was widely applauded as a deserving tribute to his contributions to journalism and national development.

Several eminent personalities delivered keynote papers and goodwill messages, including H.E. Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi, Mr. Peter Obi, Chief Onyema Ugochukwu, General Nduka Irabor (rtd), APC National Chairman Prof. Yelwata, Nduka Obaigbena, Femi Adesina, and Prof. Abiodun Adeniyi of Baze University.

Abia State was represented by Mazi Jones Nnanna Jones, General Manager/Editor-in-Chief of the Abia Newspapers & Publishing Corporation.
