As part of his 2024 Constituency project, the Member representing Umunneochi State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Matthias Umeh, has delivered a five-classroom block to the people of Nneato in his Umunneochi State Constituency to enhance learning in the area.
Speaking during the commissioning of the project championed by Hon. Matthias Umeh, the State Governor, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, commended the lawmaker for his commitment to education and being articulate in acknowledging the desires of his constituents.
The Governor, who was represented by his deputy, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, described Hon. Umeh as a lawmaker who has written his name in gold in the minds of his constituents, adding that the project reflects the educational policies of Governor Alex Otti in revitalizing educational infrastructure in the state and encouraging him to do more.
Governor Otti, however, warned against vandalization and encroachment on government school property by unscrupulous elements, noting that such actions will not be tolerated by his administration.
He emphasized the importance of securing educational facilities, addressing school-aged attendance, and implementing safety measures, such as prohibiting bush burning to protect school properties.
Governor Otti further reiterated his administration’s dedication to tackling insecurity in Umunneochi Local Government, with emphasis on banditry and kidnapping, highlighting that impressive progress has been achieved in the process.
Earlier in his speech, the member representing Umunneochi State Constituency, who is also the Deputy Majority Leader in the State House of Assembly, expressed gratitude to Governor Otti for his continued support and timely release of funds to bankroll the project.
He, however, aligned the project with his campaign promises to his constituents and the administration’s value for prudence, transparency, and accountability.
Speaking with newsmen shortly after the commissioning, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Due Process and Public Procurement Bureau, Dr. Oluebube Chukwu, described the project executed by Hon. Umeh as key and one that would have a positive impact on human capital development.
Also speaking, the Principal of the benefiting school, Nneato Secondary School, Mr. Ihionu J.I., appreciated the lawmaker for the project and the Governor, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, for prioritizing education in his administration, citing recent laudable advancements such as the regular payment of teachers’ salaries and the introduction of free and compulsory education, among others.
The event attracted many dignitaries in the state, Labour Party stalwarts, and stakeholders in Umunneochi Local Government Area.
