Gov Diri Signs 2025 Budget of Assured Prosperity into Law

The Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, has signed the state’s 2025 appropriation bill, passed by the House of Assembly, into law. He had presented an estimated budget of ₦689,440,348,916.30 to the assembly on October 31, 2024. The assembly raised the estimates by ₦10,132,818,675, bringing the total sum to ₦699,573,167,592.

The Governor emphasized that the budget is not merely a financial statement but a legal instrument that must be implemented. He also expressed optimism that it would positively impact the people of Bayelsa State.

Speaking at the signing ceremony held at Government House, Yenagoa, Diri noted that signing the bill before the end of the year aligns with his administration’s policy of operating its budget cycle from January to December, as well as its commitment to good governance and transparency.

Diri commended the Speaker and members of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly for the timely passage of the bill, expressing satisfaction with their performance. He urged them to remain committed to their service to the state.

He also charged all ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) to ensure that their proposals align effectively with the provisions of the budget.

“In line with our policy, we have gone through all the processes to finalize our budget, and it is an honor to sign this appropriation bill, tagged the ‘Budget of Assured Prosperity,’ into law. With this signing, I reaffirm my administration’s commitment to good governance and transparency,” he said.

“Mr. Speaker, your leadership speaks volumes. The House is very prolific. I commend your diligence and the timely passage of the budget. It reflects your dedication to serving Bayelsa State,” the Governor added.

The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Abraham Ingobere, stated that the 2025 budget estimates were thoroughly scrutinized and passed into law in the interest of the state. He noted that the Assembly increased the budget figures presented by the Executive by 1.5 percent after careful consideration, stressing that proper implementation could transform the state’s economic fortunes.

Ingobere thanked the Governor for allocating resources for the training and retraining of institutions, which has enhanced productivity in the state. He assured the Executive of a strengthened working relationship in 2025.
