The Abia State Government has announced the engagement of two consulting firms to assist in the rehabilitation and refurbishment of the long abandoned Enyimba Hotels Aba to a Five Star status.
The Commissioner for Information and Culture, Prince Okey Kanu disclosed this while briefing Journalists on the outcome of this week’s Exco meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti.
Prince Kanu who noted that the two firms of consultants would assist the state in reaching an agreement with the proposed international Brand Managers for the hotel, said that government is committed to completing the necessary paperwork, for the commencement of the project.
According to the Commissioner, the hotel would be well expanded beyond its original state to accommodate an International Conference Centre among other facilities befitting a five-star hotel.
He said; “With the engagement of the consultants, their job would be to guide the state into an agreement with the proposed international Brand Managers of the hotel and this would happen within weeks.
“Of course, we are all aware that the state government wants to turn Enyimba Hotel into a Five-Star Hotel.
“An International Brand has been on the books to take over and manage that hotel, so a few of the paper works would be done now we’ve engaged these consultants.
“That is why i said within weeks, all these would be done with and that project will commence”.
Prince Kanu also revealed that the state government has secured a vendor for the Ovom Erosion site, in fulfillment of Governor Otti’s promise during an on the spot inspection of the erosion site recently.
“During the course of the inspection, the Governor promised to provide immediate succor to all the victims affected by the erosion.
“It is therefore most fitting that within a space of 72 hours, His Excellency has fulfilled that promise with the procurement of those vendors.
“The vendor would be at site within the week. That is how serious His Excellency has taken that promise and the project”.
Also speaking, the Director General, Greater Aba Development Authority (GADA), Mr. Uche Ukeje said that the role of the contractor at the Ovom erosion site would be to stop the erosion from further encroachment as well as to reclaim the area already devastated.
He added that the Enymba hotel which was acquired by the Aba Chamber of Commerce, industry, Mines and Agriculture (ACIMA) over 30 years ago would be rehabilitated by the state government and be made more expansive..
