Mr. George Chukwuma Ubani has been sworn-in as the new Deputy Chairman for Obingwa Local Government Area with a charge to assist in conceptualizing programmes and projects that would bring democracy dividends to the grassroots.
Governor Ikpeazu who gave the charge at the swearing-in ceremony held at Banquet hall, Government House Umuahia, urged the new Deputy Chairman to cooperate with the Council Chairman to move Obingwa Local Government Area forward.
Ikpeazu stressed the need for the deputy chairman to practice governance of inclusion at the local government level in addition to being in the forefront of mobilizing and projecting youths to participate in the governance process.
He noted that the opportunity provided him was not for personal aggrandizement but rather for him to work for the people of Obingwa as well as live his mark on the sands of time adding that posterity will beckon on him to give account of his stewardship.
According to Governor Ikpeazu, the reason behind conducting Local Government elections in the State consecutively is to deepen democratic ethos and include youths in the governance process pointing out that Local Government tier is an arm of government where youths cut their teeth in politics.
The Governor while expressing optimism that the new deputy chairman would acquit himself creditably, stated that he has been rewarded for his consistency and steadfastness in the PDP.
In his acceptance speech, the new Deputy Chairman for Obingwa Local Government Area, Mr. George Chukwuma Ubani thanked the Governor for the opportunity given him to serve and promised not to disappoint the Governor as well as the people and assured that the PDP would remain intact in Obingwa LGA.
