Barely three months traders at the famous Isigate were forcefully relocated to the Ubani Ibeku Ultra Modern Market, built by the immediate past governor of the state, Chief T.A Orji, beautification work has commenced at the site, so as to avoid completely trading activities resuming at the site.
Interacting with National Ambassador Online, the coordinator in charge of the project, Chief Sunny Nwakodo, expressed joy that finally sanity will be restored to the Umuahia city centre, after efforts by past governments to restore and recover the Isigate area to what its suppose to be.
According to him, the 1st January relocation wouldn’t have been possible,if not for his determination and that of other Abians, to move the traders.
Chief Nwakodo said the beautification of the site is fastly going on, as trading activities might return to the site, if it is left bare.
He said the Isigate would now be used for a park and pay business,where people park their cars under their care and go for whatever business they have for the day, a relaxation spot as well as a children’s park.
The former Abia NURTW boss, said the park and pay project was formed because the Isigate area cannot be totally separated from parking,loading and offloading activities, stressing that a more organised manner of doing this had to come up, if nuisance must stop.
Giving details of what the new Isigate would do to the state, Chief Nwakodo said the beautification project would not only boost internally generated revenue as monies collected in the park and pay would go into government coffers, it would help curtail the level of crime in the area, as there would be a 24hour security and a CCTV to monitor the area.
He also added that it would be a recreation centre for adults and children.
While calling on the various transporters to help the project by relocating to Ohiya Motorpark, the NURTW boss said the new business at Isigate would create jobs as well as enhance night life in the area.
