In the world today, fashion goes beyond clothings. It covers every aspect of a person’s appearance. From head to toe, every item or material worn is part of fashion. In the fashion industry, everything is possible as long as it has to do with outfits.
Here in Nigeria, there has been a tweak around what was formerly known as traditional clothing, especially Ankara.
The fabric is now used to make different styles and designs, from corporate to casual styles, the possibilities are endless.
For the women folk, there are a thousand and one things they make using Ankara material, which include gowns of different designs, skirts, trousers, jackets/suits, bags, shoes, hat, fascinators, jewelries etc. In terms of creativity, women have raised the bar with the Ankara fabric.
A fashion designer in Umuahia, Mizzy Foster, shares some of her designs with us.
These are different Ankara styles made for women who want to make a fashion statement. They are jackets of different styles like: Kimono jacket, Bomber Jacket, Track suits etc. There are also Ankara Gowns like; creative Combo gowns; these are different Ankara materials combined to make a particular gown style. The statement sleeved combo short gown, long fitted gown with a detachable peplum, high collar-necked Ankara gown, off shoulder peplum sleeved gown and off-shoulder short gown with puffed sleeves.
