Wife of Abia Gov’t Inaugurates Gender-Based Violence Response Team, Emphasizes Collaboration

The Wife of the Abia State Governor, Mrs Priscilla Chidinma Otti says the importance of a collaborative and coordinated approach towards combating gender based violence cannot be over emphasized.


Mrs Otti stated this during the inauguration of the Abia State Gender Based Working Group and GBV Response Team in Umuahia.


The Wife of the Governor who was represented by the commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Mrs Ngozi Blessing Felix noted that preventing and responding to gender based violence is the corner stone of the Dr Alex Otti administration’s commitment to advance gender equality and women’s empowerment.

She maintained that the Gender Based Response Team is aimed at guiding the Abia state government action to coordinate the various sectors involved in the fight against Gender Based Violence and to strengthen the state’s response.


Responding a members of the gender based response team Apostle Innocent Akomas commended the wife of the Governor for choosing them and promised that they would carry out their work diligently.


The Gender Based working group / Response Team is made up of thirty three members which includes commissioner for women affairs, her counterparts in the Ministries of Justice, Health and local government, Chief judge of the state, the FIDA. representatives from security agencies, the Media, Non governmental organizations and among others.
