Today, all roads will lead to Nnamdi Azikwe Secretariat for the reopening of the renovated and retrofitted first secretariat complex built by the Federal Government during the Administration of General Ibrahim Babaginda and commissioned on the 20th of August, 1993 by Engr. Barnabas A. I. Gemade (FNTSE) the then Hon. Secretary for Works and Housing.
Today’s event marks a major advancement in the State’s efforts to modernise and enhance its Public Service infrastructure which is designed to provide a conducive working environment for Public Servants, equipped with modern amenities to boost efficiency and productivity.
This is historic because the seat of the Civil Service of any arm of Government anywhere in the World is usually one of the major monuments enshrining not just the power but also the splendour of the authority of Government.
The renovated secretariat complex clearly reflects this requirement. The Governor, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti having recognised the fact that public servants require environment that will bring out the best in them decided to renovate and retrofit the abandoned secretariat and provide it with advanced facilities and amenities designed to enhance the working conditions of Abia Civil Servants. We could say that the complex stands as a symbol of progress and beacon of hope for efficient governance in the State.
Furthermore, the Secretariat will house Ministries and over one thousand Civil Servants and we commend Governor Alex Otti for his unwavering infrastructure that supports the Public Servants by renovating, retrofitting and furnishing of public building in different parts of the State, which include the Nnamdi Azikwe Secretariat, Ministry of Agriculture Administrative block and fishery Block, Law Reform office, Abia Newspaper and other numerous public building projects that are being renovated.
We congratulate the Governor, Dr Alex Chioma Otti for renovating, retrofitting and furnishing od this very important project which is yet another demonstration of what has brought you out as a visionary leader. This one is surely one of your worthwhile legacies.
Well done indeed.
