Tourism Commissioner, Nwamuo Condemns Attack On DG, Abia PDP Campaign Council, Elechi

The Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Council, Hon. Barr. Tony Nwamuo, has condemned the attack on Director General (DG), People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Campaign Council, Abia state, Rt. Hon. Chinedum Elechi by a suspected assailant.

 

In a release signed by the Media Unit, Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture and made available to newmen, Barr. Nwamuo described the act as barbaric and unfortunate, adding that Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu has taken bold step to bring the suspected assailant to book.

Meanwhile, the Governor of Abia state, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has vowed to ensure that the full weight of the law is brought to bear on the the security operative who attacked the Director General of the Abia State PDP Campaign Council, Chief Chinedum Elechi.

Elechi, a former Deputy Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly and also a further Commissioner in the state was Sunday, attacked by an operative of the Ebonyi State Command of the Department of State Services (DSS) with a sharp machete leaving him with multiple machete cuts all over his body.

Addressing Journalists when he visited the victim at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Umuahia, Ikpeazu described the incident as unfortunate, and vowed to ensure that the assailant and people of such character would not be allowed to mingle in a sane society.

He said: “I think people like that assilaint should not be allowed to stay in the midst of sane people.

 

“Such characters should be removed and put in their proper place. It is unfortunate that somebody can; without any slight provocation whatsoever bring out a matchete to first destroy the vehicle of the victim and go ahead to slash his skin right to his head and all of that. It is a very very sad development. I don’t know what our society is turning into”.

The governor who thanked God for sparing the life of Chief Elechi despite the degree of cuts sustained in the attack,expressed hope that he would recover quickly.

 

 

He commended the Management and Staff of the FMC who were on hand to arrest the bleeding and perform the necessary surgery to make sure that the victim is stable.

 

 

Earlier, the victim, Chief Chinedum Elechi narrated his ordeal and thanked God for people who rushed to save his life from the assailant who he said would have murdered him.

 

 

He appreciated Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, other friends and well wishes for coming to identify with him particularly, the management of FMC for efforts in saving his life.

 

 

Governor Ikpeazu was accompanied to the visit by the Member Representing Ukwa West State Constituency, Hon. Godwin Adiele, Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Chris Ezem, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Chief Okey Ahaiwe, Dr. Cosmas Ndukwe among others while the Medical Director, FMC, Professor Azubuike Onyebuchi was on ground to receive the Governor and his entourage.
