Suspend Rivers LG Elections Now – DHRD

The Defence for Human Rights and Democracy is calling for the suspension of the of the Local Government election in Rivers State. The chairman of the group Clifford Christopher said the political atmosphere in the state is not conducive for the conduction of local government elections. He said the planned conduct of the election will only heightened tensions in the state .

” The atmosphere is not right and fit for now, and the state is not politically ready for an election. So we call for the suspension of local government election in Rivers State”.

The Defence for Human Right and Democracy also has trust issue. It’s chairman Clifford Christopher said he does not believe that retired justice Adolphus Enebeli will be fair in the conduct of the election since he was appointed by the immediate past governor Nyesom Wike.
” We also have resevation on the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) in Rivers State to conduct free, fair, credible, acceptable and unbiased local government election. Because we know who appointed these people. The immediate past governor of Rivers State Barr. Nyesom Wike appointed these people, so they would play to the gallery and serve his interest and purposes”.

Still on local government affairs, the chairman Caretaker Committee in Obio/Akpor Local Government Chijioke Ihunwo is challenging traditional rulers in the local government to ensure that peace reign in their respective communities. He said for peace to be maintained in the various communities, the traditional rulers and the security agencies must work closely with him especially in information sharing. He explained that he have decided to interact with the traditional rulers because they are the custodian of the land and there is need for absolute peace in the local government.

The CDC chairman Mr. Ihunwo further stated that his administration will soon avail programes that will change the lives of the people for the better. He also said that he is aware that most of the traditional rulers are taking sides. He however reminded them that they have a governor who is concerned and mean well for Rivers people. He therefore urge all hands to be on deck and commit themselves to the ideas of governor Siminalaye Fubara because he have genuine intention for the state and her people.
