The Chairman, House Committee on Climate change, Federal House of Representatives, National Assembly Abuja, Hon. Chris Nkwonta, has commended Niger-Delta Development Commission (NDDC), for the reconstruction of Obehie-Okeikpe-Ukanafun road.
The federal lawmaker representing Ukwa Federal Constituency who stated this yesterday during the commissioning of the first phase of the road; spanning from Obehie to Okeikpe and the flag off the second phase of Okeikpe to Akwete Ohambele road project leading to Akwa Ibom State, held at Obehie Primary School, Ukwa-West Local Government Area (LGA), Abia state, urging for more infrastructure in area.
Earlier, the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti officially inaugurated the first phase of the reconstructed Obehie-Okeikpe Road.
In his remark, Dr Otti who was represented by his deputy, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, recalled the deplorable condition of the road in 2023 general elections campaign when he visited the area and thanked the NDDC as well as the Contractor Chief Mart for a job well done.
He enjoined NDDC to revisit other abandoned projects in the state and ensure completion adding that his administration has already keyed into the renewed hope agenda of President Bola Tinubu in ensuring the dividends of democracy gets to the grassroots.
In his speech, the Managing Director/CEO NDDC, Dr Samuel Ogbuku said that the Obehie-Okeikpe road project is a regional road that links Abia State to Akwa-Ibom, adding that NDDC in line with the renewed hope agenda of Mr President is committed in ensuring all abandoned projects within the Commission areas of coverage is realized
Dr. Ogbuku thanked the Governor Dr Alex Otti and the benefiting Communities for their support towards timely completion of the project.
Also speaking the facilitator of the project and also the member representing Abia State at NDDC, Chief Dimgba Eruba said that the road project represents progress, connectivity and would also improve socio-economic activities between Abia State and Akwa Ibom states as well as facilitates ease of movement of goods and services.
Contributing the Executive Director, Projects NDDC, Mr Victor Antai said that the road project was awarded on 7th of April, 2022, pointing out that the project has reduced travel time or stress between the two states, improve security surveillance and boast economic rejuvenation of the benefiting Communities.
