Defending champions, France commenced their title defence with a resounding 4-1 victory over Australia. This result take France to the top of the group D table as Tunisia and Denmark ended their encounter goalless.
Australia drew the first blood, when Harry Souttar plays a lovely ball out the right to Mathew Leckie. He beats his defender and then plays a ball over the back post. It catches a slight deflection but still lands to Craig Goodwin, who smashes the ball into the roof of the net from six yards.
France responded when Griezman’s corner was not well cleared Theo Hernandez whips in a follow-up cross and Adrien Rabiot meets it in the centre to power home a header.
Five minutes later, Giroud put France in front.
After the break, Mbappe and Giroud scored to give France a perfect start to their title defence.
France will take on Denmark as Tunisia confront Australia on Saturday.
Meanwhile, after Argentina’s shocking defeat to Saudi Arabia in group C, Poland and Mexico settled their encounter goalless. Perhaps a good result for Argentina, who will have to beat both teams to qualify for the knockout stage.
