Lagos to Feed 1,500 Residents in each LGA Daily — Sanwo-Olu

The Lagos State governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, in a media briefing on Thursday said his administration will engage local food vendors popularly called “Mama Put” and some restaurants, to feed between 1, 000 – 1, 500 residents daily, free of charge, in all Local Government Areas in the State.

In the briefing tagged “Sanwo-Olu Speaks”, the governor explained that the intervention was part of measures to assuage the insane food prices in the country which has seen the escalation of protests in several cities across the nation. The governor said,

“…So let’s watch out for the logistics. You know, we are identifying the caterers already. You know, funds will be sent to them, and they will have vouchers to show that just people just walk in, you know, and just give them something to eat, once, daily. This will go on for 30 – 60 days. And let’s just continue on that”.

In the same breath, Sanwo-Olu also unveiled another plan to implement a three-day workweek from junior workers to grade level 14.

He stressed that while Teachers will maintain their regular five-day work schedule, the government will provide additional transport support for them.

“We want to start with our public servants immediately from next week”.
He continued, “Civil Servants from the lower level will be working like three times a week while levels 15 – 17 can work 4 times a week.”

The governor also revealed that his government is expecting over 200 trailers of rice coming from up North. Also in the pipeline, according to him, is food purchase and distribution package that will cover about 300, 000 households that will deliver: 10kg rice, 5kg Garri, 5kg beans with sundries like spices and tomatoes, into the bargain, to be handed out in combo bags.
