In a bid to sanitize the popular Isigate axis of the state capital,Umuahia and decongest traffic,Abia State Government has said that it would leave no stone unturned in the plan to relocate traders and illegal motor Parks around the area.
The Special Adviser to Governor Alex Otti on Trade and Commerce, Dr. Chimezie Ukaegbu who disclosed this while interacting with newsmen in his office said government would tackle headlong clusters of Street trading by relocating traders and illegal motor Parks to government approved designated places.
The Special Adviser, while noting that the action would ease traffic in and around Isigate, said the strategy would also provide a conducive environment for traders to do their legitimate business.
He said: “One of the reasons illegal traders are found there( Isigate) is the illegal parks that are allowed to exist around there.
“Government will build a central median across the road starting from Warri Street, to ensure that motorists do not take a U-turn at Warri Street but do that at ShopRite axis.
“Governor Otti has already constituted a committee on street trading which would soon be in place. This administration is working to ensure proper harmonization of market taxes in the State.
“We plan to tar the Ubani market and provide water, electricity, and access roads for the Ubani-Ibeku market. We also plan to fix the Umueze-Agbo-Ubani road while potholes in Uzuakoli road would be filled up”.
Ukaegbu who maintained that the vision of the present administration is to provide a conducive environment and raise revenue for the State, said Governor Otti is poised in his avowed commitment to attract investors as well as increase Internally Generated Revenue and bring development to the State.
He said that the Ariaria market is of great importance to the present administration adding that the Governor Alex Otti government would upgrade Ariaria to its befitting status of an international market and solicited continuous support of all and sundry.
