Wife of Abia Governor Mrs. Ikpeazu (R) tasting foods from Abia Women Cooking Competition. 

Miss. Ugochukwu Gladys, of Abia South Senatorial zone has emerged the winner of the first edition of the Abia cooking competition, tagged ‘Usekwu Abia ‘.

At the grand finale held at Michael Okpara Auditorium in Umuahia, the state capital, wife of Abia Governor, Mrs. Nkechi Ikpeazu, said that the cooking competition was initiated to awaken the cultural consciousness of our women to pass down our traditional home keeping to our children.

According to her, ” this transfer of our traditional values will help our children even those in diaspora to know their root”.

Mrs. Ikpeazu also present consolation prices to the participants and winners of the quiz competition in the recently concluded Annual Women August Delegate Conference.

She explained that the conference was held via different social media platform due to the Covid 19 pandemic adding that her office is poised to train about 40,000 women in digital technology.

Chairing the occasion, the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Chief Mrs. Ukachi Amala, states that this is an epoch making event being the first of its kind in the state.

Ukachi, however, laments that people are frequenting hospital these days because of lack of proper balance diet and advised that without recourse to what is traditionally acceptable the girl child is bound to fail in marriage.

The Commissioner praised the wife of Abia Governor, for this wonderful initiative to rescue Abia children from depending on fast food restaurant.

In her speech, the resource person, Prof. Roseline Ndimele, of Abia State University Uturu, said that it’s unfortunate that what we have today is the ‘indomie generation ‘ due to lack of transfer of cultural heritage but advised mothers that it is not yet late to rewrite the wrong by persevering  in the training of the girl child, adding that training is an all inclusive action.
