Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti has sworn into the State Executive Council, Six new Commissioners drawn from diverse sectors of the economy.
They are; Mr David Kalu, Kingsley Chibueze Nwokocha, Dr. Uwaoma Ukandu, Dr. Mrs Queen Ijeoma Aghukwa, Ubochi Goodluck Chinedu and Professor Ogbonnaya Uche.
Speaking during the event held on Wednesday, at the Banquet Hall, Government House Umuahia, Governor Otti who congratulated the new commissioners, thanked them for accepting to serve and contribute to the development of the state.
The Governor emphasized the importance of excellent administration, team work, inorder to drive the execution of the programmes and agenda in their ministries and charged them to do all to deliver on their mandate.
He highlighted his administration’s commitment to merit-based appointments, and rejected traditional recruitment patterns of filling strategic Government offices with cronies who hinder growth and dynamism.
“We have carefully selected these highly accomplished individuals to bring new ideas and energy to our team.
“The new appointments were made in pursuance to our new agenda in creating a robust architecture that supports excellent service delivery.
“Effective leadership is an exercise in continuous team building, finding the right people and placing them where they are best suited to thrive.
“The task of public sector governance is an enormous one that requires having the right people on board in the right position to drive the central agenda of administration across many important frontiers.
‘One of the major hallmarks of our administration is going against conventions that had been proven to stifle growth and dynamism. we have publicly rejected the traditional recruitment pattern of filling strategic government offices with cronies who do very little in terms of execution of businesses of governance”, Gov.Otti stated.
He warned against infighting and corruption, stressing that his administration has zero tolerance for any act that could tarnish the government’s reputation.
Governor Otti announced plans for minor restructuring of Ministries to make them dynamic and enhance governance architecture, assuring that he would the Commissioners with the necessary support.
He revealed that government is working towards the establishment of the Greater Ohafia Development Authority to oversee development in Abia North Senatorial zone
Responding on behalf of her colleagues, Dr. Mrs Maureen Aghukwa, thanked the Governor for finding them worthy to serve the state, and assured that the Commissioners would work as a team to achieve the present administration’s rebuilding agenda.
