Fed Lawmaker, Nkwonta Dumps PDP, Decamps To APC

The member representing Ukwa Federal Constituency in Federal House of Representatives, Rep Chris Nkwonta has defected from Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to All Progressives Congress (APC).

The legislator announced his defection today (Wednesday October 2, 2024) in a letter the Speaker, Abbas Tajudeen, read on the floor of the House.

Reacting to the development, the Deputy Minority Leader, Aliyu Madaki protested the defection, citing Order 68 of the 1999 Constitution.

Madaki said the a lawmaker can only dump the party that sponsored his election if there is crisis in the party.

However, his point of order was ruled out of order by the Speaker, who maintained there is crisis in the PDP.
