Clean and Green Abia: ASEPA Umuahia zone to provide waste bins for public transport operators.

Mr. Ambrose Jonah, the Deputy General Manager, Abia State Environmental Protection Agency (ASEPA) Umuahia zone, has disclosed plans by the Agency to provide waste bins for public transport operators.

This he said was part of the efforts to ensure a green and clean Abia State.

Mr. Jonah told newsmen in Umuahia that once waste bins have been introduced, the road users including the passengers would have to drop all waste in the bin which will be inside the tricycle, taxis and buses or face the environmental sanitation law.

“Today is the beginning of the six days public sensitization. We actually want to make Abia State one of the best as regards to cleanliness. We are just trying to let the people know that it’s not business as usual again, that we need to sanitize the state by keeping it clean.

“We have also told them to play their own part, because it’s a partnership. They will do their own part and we will do our own part. We told them also that dumping of refuse will start by 5pm and end on 6am in the morning. And they don’t need to be sending minors to dump site”.

The ASEPA Umuahia zone boss, who encouraged the citizens and residents to help the Agency by de-silting the gutters in front of their houses and keep them clean always, hinted that the Agency is currently de-silting all gutters in Umuahia, the state capital, which he said would be sustained.

“That is one of the reasons we have to let people know that they should help the government of Abia State Governor Alex Otti and ASEPA to achieve this objective. So I advice the masses to help Gov. Otti and ASEPA to keep the state clean”.

“We also have a monitoring team that works together with the central tasks force . Whoever that’s caught disobeying our directives will face the law.
