AWADEC 2022: Women Are Bedrock Of Development, Says Professor Ikonne

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for the 2023 gubernatorial election Professor Eleazar Uche Ikonne, says Women are the bedrock of development.

Professor Ikonne stated this while addressing the 8th edition of Abia Women August delegates Conference, “AWADEC 2022”; which held today, at the International Conference Centre Ogurube Layout Umuahia.

Professor Ikonne who was represented by his running mate, Barr Okey Igwe noted that this year’s theme; “Abia Women: Engineering Development, Creating Legacies”; was most apt given the extraordinary roles Abia women have played in the development of the State.

He paid special tribute to the wife of the Governor of Abia State, Deaconess Nkechi Ikpeazu PhD, for achieving so much for the family and women of Abia State through her office.

The PDP governorship candidate was particularly impressed with the grace, the remarkable milk of human kindness, and the humility, the Abia first lady has brought to bear in office as first lady.

According to him, ” Our first lady has been superlatively supportive of her husband which enabled our Governor achieve so much for the state these past 7 years. She has also assisted many women overcome gender related biases; championed eradication of sickle cell through her foundation; built houses for indigent women and encouraged plenty women through financial support for their businesses”.

He stated that their proposed government will partner with the women for greater development of Abia State by involving them directly in the process of taking critical decisions. He wished the Abia women a fruitful deliberation and urged them to use their votes wisely to elect the candidate who understands the issues with practicable solutions. “A man who has taught and managed your children as students and worked with your husbands as colleagues; truly understands the issues”, he concluded.

The Chairman on the occasion, Chief Odinaka Igwe, who is the CEO of Mainland Oil and Gas, was also represented by the PDP deputy governorship candidate and member representing Umunneochi state Constituency in the Abia House of Assembly, Barr. Okey igwe,

The DG UcheNdiAbia campaign organisation, Barr. Chinedum Elechi, Sir Chinedu Ugoala, Professor Dick Uduma and many other dignitaries graced the occasion.
