ANPA Training: Mrs. Otti charges health workers to reduce child mortality

The wife of Abia State Governor, Mrs. Priscilla Otti said that the collaboration between Abia state government and the Association of Nigeria Physicians in the America(ANPA) to offer free medical services to Abians and to train health workers in the state to help the new born to survive is a welcome development.

Speaking during the training sessions of the health workers at the Michael Okpara Auditorium in Umuahia today, the Governor’s wife charged the health workers to ensure that they master what they are being trained to do and to put it into practice anytime duty calls.

She explained that the initiatives was in line with Governor Otti’s efforts to revitalise the health sector in the state, sustain it and to make health care delivery affordable to all citizenry.

According to her, this is coming at a point where the global child delivery stands at 136 million with 46% of these births encountering some form of early life threatening complications hence the emergence of this life saving training to help the babies survive.

She further stated that to help the baby survive training by ANPA is a crucial effort of the state government to eliminate all child threatening circumstances after child birth and to reduce infant mortality at large.

However, she commended ANPA for their time, resources and the use of their expertise to help Gov. Otti renew hope of Abians in the state health sector.

In her remarks, ANPA President, Dr. Chinyere Anyaogu, said that helping babies survive is a programme design to improve the quality of life for newborns and to reduce neonatal motalities.

Dr. Anyaogu explained that the training will offer participants the opportunity to master initial steps of neonatal resuscitation to save lives and to give a better start to many babies who struggles to breath, breath at birth.

In a goodwill message, the state commissioner for health, Dr. Ngozi Okoronkwo expressed her gratitude to ANPA for coming down to Abia state to help transform the vision of the governor in the health sector.

According to her, this training is part of Governor Alex Otti’s administration’s effort to ensure that health workers in the state are equipped to perform their duties well.
