Anglican Bishop, Commissioner for Tourism, Extol Abia PDP Guber Candidate, Prof Ikonne

The Diocesan Bishop, Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Diocese of Ukwa, Rt. Rev. Manasses Chijiokem Okere has extolled the Abia 2023 People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Prof. Uche Eleazar Ikonne, describing him as a fortright knight of the church.

Bishop Okere who stated this at the just concluded 38th Synod of Ukwa Diocese in Akwete, Ukwa-East Local Government Area (LGA), Abia state, added that Prof. Ikonne has made the church proud by distinguishing himself as the Rector, Abia state Polytechnics Aba and Abia State University Uturu among other various capacities.

Bishop Manesses Chijiokem Okere

In his sermon, the Bishop, Diocese of Nsukka, Rt. Rev. Aloysius Agbo, pointed out that wrong believe and values have crippled the society, urging everyone to develop and intimacy with God, shun bitterness and renew their hearts for acceptance before God.

Speaking on the theme entitled: “A new heart: The core of a transformed life of obedience and service to God”, the clergy maintained that God is more interested in having a relationship with us than what we offer.

Gov Okezie Ikpeazu

In his remark, the Abia state Governor, Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, represented by the Deputy Chief of Staff, Office of the Deputy Governor, Abia state, Sir Don Ubani, has reiterated government’s resolve to always partner with the church in advancing the affairs of Abians.

He thanked the church for their prayers, adding that it has hugely helped the state to enjoy peace and prosperity over the years.

Barr. Tony Nwamuo

Contributing, the Abia state Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Hon. Barr. Tony Nwamuo has also described Prof. Ikonne as a proven man of excellence, whose wealth of experience in various areas like Human Capital Development, Education among others would advance Abia state if elected Governor, Abia State.

Barr. Nwamuo who further called for continued support to Help Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu’s adminstration, describing him as the rebuilder of Abia state.

Barr. Nwamuo further said: “We should continue to support the to productive administration of Gov Ikpeazu in his renewed efforts to better the lots of Abians”.

Meanwhile, the 2023 Abia PDP Guber candidate, Prof. Uche E. Ikonne, has attributed his success as the Vice-Chancellor, Abia State University (ABSU) Uturu to his partnership with God, the church and the clergies.

He noted that cultism was reduced to the lowest level during his tenure in ABSU, owing to spiritual help from the church and clergies like Bishop Manesses Okere.

In his words: “I have not not disappointed Anglican and the entire body of Christ in any way and will not disappoint if given another opportunity to serve come 2023”.

He promised to invest the state’s resources in Ukwa region if elected, maintaining that the area is endowed with human and natural resources.

Present at the event are; the 2023 PDP candidate for Ukwa Federal Constituency, Sir Chris Nkwonta, former Sole Adminiatrator, Abia State Oil Producing Areas Commission (ASOPADEC), Rt. Hon. Emeka Stanley, Executive Chairman, Ukwa-East LGA, Hon. Chuks Wabara, the Director General, Uche Ndi Abia Campaign Organization, Rt. Hon. Chinedum Elechi, the CEO, Tuski Energy, Chief Chimezie Otuka among others.

Highlight of the event was the decoration of Prof. Ikonne with Akuruaku Ndoki clothe by the people.
