Gov Fubara Dissolves Rivers Cabinet, Orders Immediate Handover

Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has dissolved the State Executive Council with immediate effect, directing all political appointees to hand over to senior civil servants in their respective ministries.

The decision was announced in a brief statement issued late Thursday, February 12, 2026.

According to the directive, all Commissioners and Special Advisers are to formally transfer their responsibilities to the Permanent Secretaries or the most senior officers within their ministries, departments and agencies.

Governor Fubara expressed appreciation to the outgoing officials for their service to the state, acknowledging what he described as their “immense contributions” to his administration and the development of Rivers State. He wished them well in their future endeavours and thanked them for their roles in advancing the government’s agenda.

The dissolution signals a major shake-up in the executive arm of the Rivers State Government and is expected to pave the way for fresh appointments and a possible realignment of policy priorities.
