Amaise CSTS Ukpakiri Wins Maiden Obingwa-West Debate Championship

Amaise Community Secondary Technical School (CSTS), Ukpakiri, Obingwa LGA, Abia state has emerged winner of the 2025 Obingwa-West Debate and Public Speaking Championship, defeating Comprehensive Senior Secondary School, Mgboko Itungwa, in a keenly contested final.

Amaise CSTS clinched the title with 361 points (60.5%), ahead of Mgboko Itungwa’s 330 points (55.8%). The final featured the motion: “The Post-UTME should not be a criterion for admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions.” Amaise proposed the motion, led by 13-year-old SS1 student, Master Monday WithGod, while 16-year-old SS2 student, Miss Iheukwumere Goodgift Chinaza, led the opposing team from Mgboko Itungwa.

In the third-place contest, Osusu Amaukwa Community Secondary School secured victory with 275 points (45.8%) over Ahiaba High School, which scored 266 points (43.6%). Both schools debated the motion: “Electricity generation and distribution in Nigeria should be fully privatized.” Osusu Amaukwa was led by 13-year-old SS1 student, Kalu Hanah, while Ahiaba High School was represented by Miss Sampson Peculiar, also a 13-year-old SS1 student.

The championship showcased exceptional eloquence, critical thinking, and confidence among students across Obingwa-West.

The Chairman of the Organising Committee, Mr. Nwokeukwu Mascot Nnamdi, commended all participating schools for their impressive performances and sportsmanship.

Speaking with newsmen, the champion team’s lead speaker, Master Monday WithGod, expressed gratitude to God for emerging victorious among the 12 competing schools. He also appreciated their coach, Mr. Esinulo Solomon, for his guidance, and thanked his teammates for their resilience and consistency throughout the contest.

He further extended special appreciation to Erondu Uchenna Erondu Jnr, sponsor of the championship, noting that the programme has helped students discover and refine their talents.

The lawmaker representing Obingwa-West State Constituency, Erondu Uchenna Erondu Jnr, congratulated Amaise CSTS on their victory. Represented by Mr. Chikezirim Monday Orji, he also applauded the first and second runners-up for their determination and commendable performance during the competition.

Prizes won included; personal laptops for 1st, 2nd and 3rd teams with desktops computers given to their schools among others.
