SSG Charges Abia SME Microfinance Bank Board to Drive State’s Economic Growth

The Secretary to the Abia State Government (SSG), Professor Kenneth Kalu, has charged the Board of the Abia State SME Microfinance Bank to see their job as crucial to the state’s broader economic development agenda.

Professor Kalu gave the charge when he received members of the bank’s board, led by the Chairman, Sir Friday Ndu Eluwa, in his office. He emphasized that the state government remains committed to reviving and repositioning financial institutions in Abia to better serve the needs of entrepreneurs and traders.

According to the SSG, Abia’s economy is largely driven by small and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs), stressing that the SME Microfinance Bank will play a vital role in supporting business growth if properly managed. He urged the board to demonstrate strong commitment and take all necessary steps to ensure the bank becomes fully operational.

Professor Kalu also advised the board to clearly articulate any constraints they face so that the government can intervene appropriately to facilitate solutions.

Earlier in his remarks, the board chairman, Sir Friday Ndu Eluwa, said the visit was to brief the SSG on the progress made so far toward ensuring that the bank commences operations soon. He expressed gratitude to the state government for its continued support and sought further collaboration to enable the bank’s smooth take-off.

In a vote of thanks, board member Mr. Chikezie Okigbo appreciated the government’s support and pledged the board’s unwavering commitment to delivering on its mandate.
