Police Confirms The Release Of Abducted Rivers Lecturer

The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the release of abducted Lecturer of the University of Port Harcourt, Dr. Jones Ayouwo after being held captive for three weeks by his abductors.

Ayuwo, a lecturer in the department of Linguistics and Communications Studies was kidnapped February 21, 2021 along Bori road in Khana Local government area on his way from a Bible translation meeting in Andoni LGA, his hometown.

Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nnamdi Omoni confirmed release of the lecturer in chat with Journalists in his office on Tuesday.

Omoni said Ayouwo, who was released unhurt Monday night is currently receiving medical attention and will soon be reunited with his family.

“His release was made possible due to the intense and relentless pressure mounted by the police, who had before now, through technical intelligence, spotted their location and was closing in on them.

“The kidnappers on seeing the red flag abandoned the victim and took to flight.”

The Police image maker also reiterated the command’s commitment in ensuring the safe release of a first class traditional ruler, the Okama of Ikuru town and Chiarman, Andoni traditional rulers council, King Aaron Ikuru who was kidnapped February 22 in his hometown, Ikuru-Town, Andoni LGA.

“Recall that since the abduction of the traditional ruler and the University Don, the police in synergy with other security Agencies has been working assiduously to ensure their unconditional release with careful deployment of tact and deplomacy in the operations while avoiding bloody confrontation that would have led to fatalities.”

The Police Spokesman said the release of the University Don, Ayouwo, has paved way for the release of the monarch.

“The coast is now clear for the release of the Traditional Ruler, as all energies will be channeled towards ensuring his release.
