Manchester City’s clash with Liverpool this weekend at Amfield has been described as a must-win encounter for the Citizens. That is the view of veteran Manchester City mid-fielder Ikay Gundogan.
If the defending champions lose this weekend’s encounter they will be 11 points adrift of Liverpool.
Asked if City need to win, Gondugan said, “To stay in the title race probably yes, because 11 points would be a huge gap.”
The Premier League is only 13 weeks old but Gundogan expressed the need to turn things around in the club.
“But obviously,” Gundogan said, “we have to look at ourselves and try to do the things we can do better, as quick as possible.”
Manchester City are passing through their worst times under Pep Guardiola. They have gone six matches without a win, losing five consecutively before drawing their last match against Feyenoord 3-3 in the UEFA Champions League despite having led 3-0 at the Etihad.
This weekend match is a do-or-die, cruise or crash and swim or sink for the defending champions.
