The member representing the South East on the Governing Board of the North East Development Commission (NEDC), Rep. Sam Onuigbo has expressed pride in Nigeria’s achievements as the nation marks her 64th Independence anniversary today.
Onuigbo in a media chat, called for a unified effort among citizens to support the government as he emphasized the rich potential and intelligence of Nigerians, both at home and abroad stressing that the country is home to millions of brilliant minds who are excelling globally and making significant contributions to their fields.”
The former Lawmaker who represented Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency highlighted the importance of unity in driving Nigeria’s progress further as he urged Nigerians to put aside differences and collaborate in supporting governmental efforts aimed at addressing the country’s challenges.
He highlighted some of the milestones achieved in the Country’s educational system.” We are one indivisible nation,worthy of celebration.We have grown from a nation that had no University, to a nation with over a hundred higher institutions. Today we have private Universities, Polytechnics,Colleges of Education, scattered over every state.
“We have graduates everywhere,making great marks around the world. To me, we have reasons to celebrate because we have advanced academically”.
Onuigbo, who is also chairman of Climate Change and Security Committee of the NEDC Board, acknowledged the resilience of Nigerians despite the hurdles, which he believes is a testament to the nation’s strength and potential.
“Some Nigerians have made individual and collective efforts in ensuring the nation moves forward. For me, I have made modest contributions, beginning from my community,where I facilitated the first secondary school. This singular action, solved the challenge of school children trekking over 6 kilometers every day to other communities to access education”.
As Nigeria celebrates its independence, Rep. Onuigbo called for renewed commitment to national development and cohesion among citizens as he called for stronger support for the Bola Tinubu led administration to bring about policy stability and national growth.
In his words,”We have not gotten to where we desire yet, but in a matter of time,we will get there. We have to make individual sacrifices both as communities, state and nation, for us to get to where we desire.
“Nigeria is an exceptionally gifted nation with intelligent people. While we work on our area of inadequacies, though challenging, but the government is ready to turn things around to bring stability in policy formation and implementation, therefore they need our support to avoid policy somersault.
