Rivers Govt Moves To Partner FRSC On Transport Sector

In a move to enhance road management in the state, the Commissioner for Transport in Rivers State, Prince (Hon). Collins Onunwo,Esq, has received a courtesy visit from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) at his office.

During the visit, Hon. Collins Onunwo emphasized the importance of working together as a team to serve the people of Rivers State. “For us in the Ministry of Transport, we are not just working as Rivers people but working as Nigerians,” he said. “The Governor is a man who loves his people and has given a human face to governance.”

Collins Onunwo stated that effective road management cannot be achieved without the collaboration of the Nigeria Police Force and the FRSC. He noted that he had taken the time to visit various places during the Law Annual Conference in Lagos State and was eager to replicate successful models in Rivers State.

Outlining his plans for the transport sector, the Commissioner said the ministry is working on initiatives such as mandatory painting of taxis and tricycles, driver enumeration to aid crime control, and the implementation of a digital ticketing system with CCTV cameras to address issues of wrong parking.

Onunwo expressed gratitude to the FRSC and assured them of the ministry’s willingness to work in synergy with the agency and other federal agencies to achieve their collective goals for road management in the state.

In his remarks, the Sector Commander of the FRSC in Rivers State, Inyang E Umoh, CNA, acknowledged the need for a cordial relationship and collaborative efforts to save lives on the roads.

He highlighted the various programs being carried out by the FRSC and emphasized the importance of working together to effectively address road management challenges.

The visit underscores the Commissioner’s commitment to strengthening ties with relevant agencies and implementing innovative strategies to enhance transportation and road safety in Rivers State.
