Abia Govt Directs Landlords In Umuahia To Remove Shanties, Extensions; States Consequences

Government has directed the Landlords at Aba Road, Bank Road, club road, Uzuakoli Road, Umuwaya Road, Owerri Road, Isigate and adjoining streets to remove all shanties, extensions, attachments and building on walk-ways defacing the aesthetic of Umuahia; the State Capital without further delays.

The General Manager, Umuahia Capital Development Authority UCDA, Mr Kingsley Agomo gave the directive in a meeting with the Landlords in the affected areas, stressing that Dr. Alex Otti’s administration has always applied human face in restoring the State Capital to its glory. The General Manager on his own has been able to interface with the Landlords severally and advised them to do the needful and comply with the directive to assist the Governor in his rebuilding program without any coercion.

Mr Agomuo further said that any Landlord that fails to comply with this directive will be penalised and bear the cost of removal of the illegal attachments and extensions by the government.

Also speaking, the Director of Town Planning UCDA, Mr Tony Onyemereneche advised the Landlords to assist the present administration in his desires to transform the state capital which will in turn benefit them positively by adhering to the directive and improve the aesthetic values and values of their properties.

In their reactions, some of the Landlords including Eze Philip Ajomiro, Mr. Nicholas Nwaogwugwu, Emeka Nwoko and Veteran ihegworo while acknowledging the effort of the present administration in giving state capital befitting outlook, stressed the need for the exercise to be carried out with human face.
