House of Assembly Committee on Environment Lauds ASEPA for Cleanliness Achievements

The House of Assembly Committee on Environment has lauded the State Environmental Protection Agency for the achievements it has recorded in the cleanliness of the state within the past four months.

 

The chairman, House Committee on Environment, Chief Kalu Mba made the commendation when the committee visited ASEPA as part of its oversight functions.

 

 

Chief Mba who assured that the committee will assist ASEPA in discharging its functions creditably noted that the success achieved by the agency so far in the environmental cleanliness of the state has attracted commendations within and outside the state.

 

He urged the ASEPA General Manager, Mr. Ogbonna Okereke and his team not to rest in their oars by ensuring that all parts of the state receive the attention of the agency in line with Governor Alex Otti’s rebuilding agenda.

He stressed the need for the Agency to strengthen the environmental mobile court to ensure that people observe and participate actively in the monthly sanitation exercise across the seventeen local government areas of the state.

 

Also speaking some members of the committee including the majority leader of the House which is also the member representing Arochukwu State constituency, Mr. Uchenna Okoro and his Ukwa East counterpart, Mr. Luwis Obianyi described the activities of ASEPA as critical to the protection of the environmental noting that the agency has made remarkable the progress in the environmental cleanliness of the state.

They also stressed the need for the agency to set up monitoring team to stop people from throwing waste into the drainage thereby obstructing the free flow of water among other obnoxious environmental practices.

 

In his remarks General Manager ASEPA, Mr. Ogbonna Okereke who was elated by the visit said that it will spur them in discharging their duties in line with the vision of the Governor, Dr. Alex Otti.

 

 

Mr. Okereke maintained that the agency is committed to the cleanliness of the state and disclosed that contract has been awarded to six private companies for waste management in line with the global best practices.
