The Governor of Abia State, Dr.Okezie Ikpeazu, has assured Abia children of a brighter tomorrow,noting that their security is his utmost priority.
The governor who was represented by the Honorable Commissioner for Sports,Hon.Ojikwe Karibe, stated this during the 2022 Children’s Day Celebration at Umuahia township Stadium, recently, with the theme, “A better future for every child”.
He further said that this present administration is much interested in the education and welfare of Abia children.
He therefore encouraged the children to always remember that their future is bright and that tomorrow holds better vision for them than this present day.
Gov Ikpeazu appreciated all the children that participated in marking the 2022 Children’s day celebration ,while wishing them a happy children’s day .
Speaking earlier, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Deaconess Nne Rose Urenta, said that the basic education of every Abia child remains the top priority in the development of the state, adding that the present administration has continued to do all within it’s power to achieve a better future for every child especially in Abia State.
She said that the governor has sustained and strengthened ongoing actions to protect children from child labour,child trafficking, gender based violence,among others.
Urenta, however, said it is now a criminal offence for any Abia child of school age not to be enrolled in a school and therefore encouraged parents and guardians to ensure their children and wards are enrolled into schools so as to enhance their knowledge.
She ,therefore, appreciated the governor, Dr.Okezie Ikpeazu, for making the 2022 children’s day celebration a memorable event. Highlights of the event include, cultural dance, thug of war, calisthenics and match past by pupils and students.
In the Government Secondary School Category,Ndume-Otuka Secondary School came first while Ibeku High School and Secondary Technical College came second and third respectively. In Government primary category Police children school came first while School Road primary School and Ahiaeke Primary school 1 came second and third respectively.
In private secondary school category,Holy Rosary Secondary School Ugwunchara Umuahia came first, while Honerable International School and Theoma International School came second and third respectively.
In the private primary School category,St Andrew primary school came first while Honerable International Academy and Mayfair Academy came second and third respectively.
