Open Grazing: Rivers’ Council Boss Vows To Implement Asaba Accord

The chairman, Ikwerre Local Government Area (LGA), Hon. Samuel Nwanosike says the ban on open grazing by the Southern governors will be fully implemented in the area, adding that it is in line with the Ikwerre Local Government regulations and controls of grazing activities bye-laws 2021.

In an an interview with our reporter,
Mr Nwanosike said the ban will help to resolve the increasing cases between farmers and herders in the region.

According to him, the Ikwerre Local Government has agreed totally with the resolution in Asaba and support the decision of the governor’s of the South-South, to totally ban open grazing, adding that it is the proper thing to do.

He further said that, anybody who wants to go into cattle rearing, should understand that it is a proper business like anybody who will want to build a fish farm.

He maintained that what the governor’s have done in Asaba is for the good and interest of Nigerian people to stop the continuous killings in our various communities.

According to him, a lot of communities today have been sacked because of the disagreement between farmers and herders, adding that it is the only solution that is available now and that can make it work.
He further appealed to all herders to go back and buy land for ranches.

Mr Nwanosike also told our reporter that indiscriminate trading will no longer be tolerated in the area.
He stated that even though the economy is biting hard and that small scale business must be encouraged, noting that people must not live as if they are in a lawless society.

He revealed that as soon as the bye-laws backing this is swing into action, they will no longer tolerate indiscriminate street trading.

He further advised the following communities to take note, so that they will not claim ignorant.
Igwuruta, Omagwa, Aluu, Omerelu, Elele and Isiokpo community.
