Over 500 Women from Orhuru, Umuobasiagwu and Onitcha Ngwa Communities in Obingwa L.G.A are expected to benefit from the Late Mrs Nwachi Evoh Empowerment Scheme aimed at assisting rural women to be self reliant.
Speaking on Tuesday, during the inuguration of the scheme and disbursement of seed capital of ₦30,000 to the first set of beneficiaries in Ohuru community, the Chairman, Obingwa LGA, Mrs Uluoma Nwogu while thanking the initiator, Barr Mrs Uchechi Evoh, for the noble initiative,urged the beneficiaries to put the money to good use.
She said: “I urge you to take serious steps to utilize this money appropriately to promote the objective for creating the empowerment scheme”.
The Chairman noted that the current economic realities in the country has created the need for every woman to be productive adding that the seed capital of ₦30,000 would go a long way in transforming the economy of their families and community at large.
She used the opportunity to advice the women to obtain their Permanent Voters’ Card and participate actively in electing leaders with the capacity to take the state and nation to greater heights.
The Obingwa Council Boss commended Governor Okezie Ikpeazu for his unprecedented achievements in the area of infrastructural development, women inclusion in governance as well as even distribution of dividend of democracy in the council.
Earlier in her address, the founder of the Empowerment Scheme and former commissioner for Lands, Barr Mrs Uchechi Evoh said the programme was evolved to preserve the legacy of her mother in-law, late Mrs Flora Evoh who devoted her lifetime to charity and helping the indigent members of the society.
According to her, the empowerment scheme has been structured in form of a revolving interest free loan with a start up capital of ₦5,000000(Five Million Naira) to assist women in the area improve their economic status.
She said: “it is not an outright gift but a revolving loan meant to boost the economic endeavors and skills of women in Orhuru and neighboring communities.
“The loan shall be repaid in six months period inorder to enable other persons to also benefit from the scheme.
“It is our hope that the first set of beneficiaries will put the money to good use by efficiently using it to build their trade and repay at the maturity date”.
Speaking on behalf of other beneficiaries, the woman leader of Orhuru Community Ukachi Nduagu thanked the founder for the kind gesture and assured that they would utilize the money for the purpose which it is meant for.
In an interview with National Ambassador Reporter, some of the beneficiaries including Mrs Nkechi Achinihu,Mrs Chinwe Ugonna and Mrs Dinneya Regina who said they were overwhelmed by the gesture,expressed their gratitude to Mrs Uchechi Evoh and prayed God to bless her.
