The acting chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress in Rivers State Emecheta Chukwu has maintained that Beatrice Itubo can no longer speak on behalf of workers in the state having emerged as the governorship candidate of the Labour Party.
Mr. Emecheta Chukwu in an interview with our reporter said though the Constitution of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) did not state categorically if she can be a standard bearer of a political party and still hold her position as NLC chairperson. But other political party will see the union as partisan if she is allowed to keep her position.
Mr Chukwu further explained that Beatrice Itubo is a flag bearer of a party and not a member of a party as a result, it makes it impossible for her to still be the NLC chairperson because she will no longer do the basic things that she is suppose to do to defend the working class.
Emecheta Chukwu also clearify that the union followed due process before removing Beatrice Itubo from office. He alleged that the Secretary and other top officials of the NLC signed communique of the removal of Beatrice Itubo. He further maintained that Beatrice Itubo was using the state secretariat that can not be used for any political campaign with regards to political parties politicking.
Meanwhile, Beatrice Itubo in an interview said a section of the NLC constitution allows her to vie for any elective position while still in office as the chairperson of the union. Adding that she did not take any full political appointment, that she is only an aspirant that has not even become governor. She accused Emecheta Chukwu of forging signatures of members of the state executive that removed her from office.
The Labour Party governorship candidate Beatrice Itubo however denied report that she is using the labour house for her political activities. She said it is not a crime that someone visits her in her office. She revealed that she has a campaign Secretariat that she has not unveil because campaign has not started.
