Akwa Ibom State Airlines, Ibom Air, has donated about Fifty Thousand (50,000) doses of Malaria medications for pregnant women and children below the age of five in the State.
The Chief Executive Officer of Ibom Air, Mfon Udom made the donations to the state Ministry of Health on Thursday in commemoration of the 2025 World Malaria Day tagged, “Malaria Ends With Us — Let’s Reinvest, Reimagine, and Reignite the Fight.”
Udom explained that Ibom Air while observing that malaria remains one of Nigeria’s leading causes of death, especially among pregnant women and children under five, took up the challenge through its FAM-pact (Fight Against Malaria in Pregnant Women and Children) of providing medications for the ailment.
He said the Company will not relent in driving community engagement and amplifying conversations around innovative malaria prevention and treatment strategies.
The CEO said to further amplify the message, Ibom Air would be partnering with key stakeholders to host an awareness walk tagged “Walk Against Malaria” on Saturday, April 26, 2025, in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State which would begin at The Globe on Wellington Bassey Way and end at the Cenotaph on Udo Udoma Avenue, passing through Plaza, Aka Road.
Receiving the items, the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Health, Dr Ekem Emmanuel pledged commitments in ensuring that the drugs are freely and transparently distributed to relevant health facilities in the state for further uptake by the stipulated beneficiaries.
Dr Emmanuel while thanking Ibom Air for the gesture said the donations would go a long way in reducing malaria-related morbidity and mortality among pregnant women and children under age five in the state.
His words, “you may not know that the little child you’ve saved through this medium, that child may grow to be the Chief Executive Officer of Ibom Air, or the governor of Akwa Ibom Obviously, there would be reduction of infant mortality and maternal mortality. The impact will be massive. We assure you that the donations would be utilized with extreme accountability, I will not take my eyes off the distribution of this donation.”
