Women Converge Strengthens Peacebuilding, Public Engagement in Rivers

The 2025 edition of Women Converge has reaffirmed the movement’s position as one of Nigeria’s most influential platforms for spiritual mobilisation, civic engagement, and socio-economic empowerment. Now in its second year, the initiative has evolved from a bold experiment in unity into a transformative force reshaping governance narratives and strengthening stability in Rivers State.

What began as a vision driven by purpose has become a collective awakening. At the Alfred Diete-Spiff Civic Centre—now symbolic as the spiritual headquarters of the movement—thousands of women gathered physically, with millions joining virtually across the world, marking Rivers State as a rising hub for global intercession and civic renewal.

A Movement Rooted in Innovation and Purpose

The convener, Amaopuorubo Sotonye Toby Fulton, has been credited with spearheading a paradigm shift in the role of women in nation-building. Under her leadership, Women Converge integrates prayer, leadership, and social development into a single framework—driving a new understanding of how spiritual influence can support state stability.

Her stewardship has repositioned the movement as a blueprint for peacebuilding. Through structured intercession and strategic engagement, women are no longer passive observers of political events but active architects of stability.

Stabilising Rivers Through Collective Strength

Women Converge gained national attention following the political turbulence in Rivers State earlier in the year. At a time when uncertainty loomed, the collective strength of women—mobilised spiritually and civically—served as a stabilising force. Rather than resorting to confrontation, the coalition of Rivers Women Unite turned to coordinated intercession, helping to restore calm and foster unity across the state.

This approach, praised by state leaders, has since become a reference point for conflict resolution anchored in solidarity rather than agitation.

A Fusion of Prayer, Policy, and Public Engagement

The movement has sparked renewed interest in civic responsibility across Rivers State. Participants and observers alike say Women Converge has revived a culture in which communal responsibility, moral leadership, and spiritual discipline shape societal direction. The initiative underscores that development is incomplete without the contribution and intuition of women.

The 2025 edition highlighted a blend of spirituality and practical empowerment. Activities included:

Trade exhibitions to support entrepreneurs
Medical outreach programmes serving underserved communities
Leadership and developmental discourses targeting young women
Civic engagement workshops designed to promote responsible participation in governance

Organisers say these programmes demonstrate that Women Converge is not solely a prayer gathering but a multidimensional platform for human development.

Endorsement from the First Lady

Rivers State First Lady, Lady Valerie Fubara, commended the women for their resilience and unwavering support for peace in the state. She emphasized that the true strength of any society lies in the moral, spiritual, and collective labour of its women—a sentiment echoed throughout the event.

A Model for National Transformation

Observers note that the globalised reach of the 2025 edition signals a shift in how Nigerian civic movements engage the world. With widespread virtual participation, Port Harcourt was projected onto the international stage as a centre of spiritual influence and social innovation.

Nationwide, the initiative resonated during a period marked by economic strain and political transition, offering Nigerians a counter-narrative of hope, resilience, and divine assurance.

Charting a New Future

Women Converge has now positioned itself as a model for inclusive leadership and community-driven development. Its impact continues to expand beyond spirituality into socio-economic and civic spheres, inspiring conversations about the indispensable role of women in sustainable nation-building.

As the movement continues to grow, its central message remains unchanged:
Where women gather to pray, nations find answers.
