Women Affairs Minister Commends Nigeria’s Delegation to UN CSW70

The Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, has commended members of Nigeria’s delegation to the 70th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW70) for their professionalism and commitment in advancing the country’s position on gender equality at the global forum.

In a message of appreciation to the delegation that attended the session held in New York from March 9 to 19, 2026, the minister said their discipline and shared sense of mission enabled Nigeria to emerge as a credible and influential voice in discussions on the empowerment of women and girls.

She noted that Nigeria’s participation was marked by strategic engagement through the presentation of the country’s statement and contributions to the African Group’s Voluntary Country Statement alongside Egypt and Namibia.

According to her, the delegation also actively participated in engagements involving the Republic of Serbia, the African Union, ECOWAS, United Nations agencies, and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), as well as several bilateral and multilateral dialogues and side events.

Sulaiman-Ibrahim praised the strong presence and unity demonstrated by the Nigerian delegation during the session, noting that their collective participation strengthened the country’s influence and amplified its voice across key global platforms.

She also acknowledged the support of the Presidency, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and the American Embassy in Nigeria, whose collaboration, she said, enhanced Nigeria’s effectiveness and presence during the conference.

The minister further highlighted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, describing it as a transformative framework aimed at building an inclusive and resilient economy while empowering women, children and vulnerable communities across the country.

She commended the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs, Nko Esuabana, as well as directors and staff of the ministry, for their coordination and technical support which ensured Nigeria’s impactful participation at the session.

Sulaiman-Ibrahim also appreciated the staff of Nigeria’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations for their dedication and professionalism in facilitating the country’s engagements during the conference.

She specifically commended the Chargé d’Affaires, Ambassador Syndoph Endoni; the Minister and Head of the Third Committee, Ambassador Bola Asaju; and the Head of Chancery, Rasaq Lawal, for their roles in ensuring smooth coordination of Nigeria’s activities.

The minister noted that the second edition of Nigeria Women’s Day, held on the sidelines of CSW70, served as a platform to strengthen partnerships and highlight Nigeria’s commitment to translating global gender equality commitments into tangible benefits for women and girls.

She added that the event was further elevated by the presence of the United Nations Deputy Secretary-General, Amina Mohammed.

To consolidate the outcomes of the conference, the minister announced that a post-CSW70 debriefing meeting would soon be convened to review engagements and develop a roadmap for implementing key commitments.

She urged members of the delegation to remain committed to translating the outcomes of the conference into measurable progress that would positively impact women and girls across Nigeria.
