Wike Warns Non- Performing LG Chairmen Against Second Term

Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has dashed the ambition of some incumbent Local Government Chairmen in Rivers State to seek second tenure.

Governor made this statement during the Commissioning of the the phase 2 of the Isiokpo Internal Roads in Ikwerre local government area recently.

Wike made it clear to the Local Government Chairmen and party leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP that one of the major criteria to secure a second tenure ticket to recontest election is to show executed project as the concrete proof of performance.

It was also gathered that out of 23 local government Chairmen only a cer negligible few have projects to show for their three years in office.

Besides collecting taxes and levied which are usually not accounted for.

A close party source said that some of them have erroneous belief that one of the major qualifications for being there was that they fall under the category of “Governor’s Boys” and so second tenure is as well secured”.

The forthcoming local government in 23 local government area in Rivers state is scheduled for April this year.

Incumbent Local Government Chairmen are constitutionally eligible to seek re- election for another three years if they secure nomination from their party.

Wike who used himself as example, warmed that he cannot be going around Commissioning projects and some of the incumbent Local Government Chairmen are following him without any project to Commission and they are hoping that calling themselves “Governor’s Boys”, will guarantee them second tenure.

He said:, “That You are following me around to Commission project is not a guarantee to get ticket. In fact, I don’t see you. To qualify for April 2021 Rivers State local government election, must be ” Operation show your Projects. I will not listen to; this your Boy is Loyal”.

He stated further; “I can not be suffering, going everywhere commissioning Projects, and all you have to show us is “I am Governor’s Boy”. Something is wrong with you fundamentally.
“Let me state clearly today for every leader, let nobody come with ” any Boy” to come and run Elections because he’s your Boy. I dont want to hear it.

All i want is someone wgo can make impact in their Local Government, and improve the chance of PDP winning Elections in 2023.” He said.
