Wike To Commission Road Projects In Akwa Ibom Wednesday

The Minister, Federal Capital Territory, Barr Ezenwo Wike will on Wednesday, September 24, commission some projects in Ika local government area of Akwa Ibom State, according to the Senior Special Adviser to governor Umo Eno on Research and Documentation, Dr Essien Ndueso.

The projects billed for commissioning include: Ikot Esu Azumini road measuring 14.13km that connects to Azumini in Abia State and the 1.53km Ikot Udom internal roads, that accesses the home community of the Minister of State for Petroleum (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo.

Conducting journalists for a pre commissioning inspection on Tuesday, Ndueso said the project has significant economic importance to both Akwa Ibom and Abia States.

He said the road project commenced during former governor Udom Emmanuel’s administration but has been completed in Umo Eno’s dispensation.

The road construction project begins from Ikot Esu-Otomo in Ika Local Government Area of Akwa-Ibom State and extends into Azumini Ndoki community in Ukwa-East LGA of Abia State.

Meanwhile, the residents of Azumini Ndoki it was gathered had initially protested the construction, alleging fears of territorial encroachment.

However, the Chairman of Ika local government area, Barr Utibe Nwoko, speaking with journalists said the Government of his State was only ensuring that the road which was of economic importance to both sister states was completed and made viable for the people.

He said rather than lose sleep over fears of encroachment by the Akwa Ibom Government, the people of Abia should be appreciative of the advent of development project.
