Wike Promises More Infrastructure, Land Titles for Kuje Indigenes

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has pledged additional infrastructure projects and the issuance of Certificates of Occupancy (C of O) to indigenes of Kuje Area Council.

Wike made the promise on Thursday during a thank-you visit to the council as part of his post-election tour of area councils in the Federal Capital Territory following the recent local government elections.

According to the minister, the visit was directed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to appreciate residents and traditional rulers for supporting candidates aligned with the administration during the polls.

Responding to requests made by the Chairman-elect of Kuje Area Council, Danjuma Shekwolo, Wike assured residents that additional road projects would be considered after the inauguration of the council chairmen scheduled for June.

He also reiterated the Federal Government’s plan to reform land ownership in the FCT by issuing Certificates of Occupancy to indigenous communities for their ancestral lands, a move he said would strengthen their legal rights over such properties.

The minister further disclosed that work was progressing steadily on key road projects in the council, including the Airport Road to Kuje and the 17-kilometre Kuje–Gwagwalada road.

Wike urged the chairman-elect to remain accessible to the people and prioritise their welfare after assuming office.

Earlier, the Gomo of Kuje, Haruna Jibrin Tanko, commended the minister for the ongoing development projects in the area but appealed for the construction of more roads and the provision of pipe-borne water to improve living conditions for residents.
