The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has reaffirmed the commitment of the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu to providing a secure and conducive environment for the diplomatic community in Abuja.
Wike gave the assurance on Wednesday during the Saint Patrick’s Day reception and official opening of the new Embassy of Ireland at the European Union Complex in Abuja.

He stressed that the FCT Administration remains focused on transforming Abuja into a world-class capital city comparable to others across the globe, noting that notable improvements—particularly in security—have already been recorded.
“We owe you a duty to ensure the right environment for you to operate. We are committed to making Abuja comparable to other capital cities around the world. We will continue to improve daily and provide the necessary security for you to effectively carry out your duties,” the minister said.
The event was attended by Ireland’s Minister of Public Expenditure, Infrastructure, Public Service Reform and Digitalisation, Jack Chambers, as well as the Ambassador of Ireland to Nigeria, Peter Ryan, and other members of the diplomatic corps.
Describing himself as the “landlord” of the diplomatic community in Abuja, Wike congratulated the Irish government and its envoy on the successful hosting of the event and the commissioning of the new embassy building.
He also hinted at a possible official visit to Ireland, referencing his relationship with Nigeria’s newly appointed Ambassador to Ireland, OCJ Okocha.
The minister further urged foreign missions to promptly develop lands allocated to them within the FCT to prevent encroachment by land grabbers. He cited a recent incident in which an undeveloped diplomatic plot was illegally occupied, warning that such violations would not be tolerated.
“The law must take its course. We have directed embassies to reclaim and develop their lands. We will continue to do what is right, regardless of whose interest is affected,” Wike stated.
He reiterated the FCT Administration’s readiness to strengthen partnerships with the international community to deepen bilateral relations and promote mutual growth.
