West Ham Confirm Potter As New Manager

West Ham United have confirmed former Brighton and Chelsea manager Graham Potter as their new manager.

This is coming on the heels of the sacking of Julen Lopetegui on Wednesday after just six months in charge. The Spaniard was appointed in May following the departure of David Moyes, but officially took charge on July 1.

Saturday’s 4-1 defeat to Manchester City was the straw that broke the camel’s back and was the ninth defeat in 20 league games this season. It has left the club 14th and seven points above relegation zone.

Graham Potter signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with the Hammers. His baptism of fire will be an FA Cup third round game at Aston Villa on Friday.

“I am delighted to be here.” Potter told the club’s website, “It was important to me that I waited until a job came along that I felt was right for me, and equally that I was the right fit for the club I am joining. That is the feeling I have with West Ham United.”
