We’re ready to embrace peace if – Militant group

A militant group in Urasi region, the Avengers said they are ready to embrace peace if they are empowered by the Rivers State Government. This comes after the Rivers state governor Nyesom Wike talked tough at a security meeting following the ongoing security situation in the state. Some of the militant who spoke to our reporters said they want to be employed.

” we are ready to embrace peace. My promise to Rivers State Government is, if they are ready to do as we said, what I mean is that, Rivers state is too big to practice one side chief security. If the empowerment has been done, and they still see that the bunkering is still going on, then they can take it that we are oppressing the government ”

” if they give us the chief security of East and West empire on all the oil land in East and West, there will be peace on the LGA. For now they couldn’t do anyone. All they do is to use government to pursue us round to eliminate us. All we are begging the government is to look into this matter. Because we need appointment. We have people that are educated, which will go there and deliver ”

They also dismissed speculations that they are criminals.

” before now we are peace makers in Ekpeye community, If the king,chairman and Assembly members will be truthful to themselves. And before now we are working with them, and making peace in Ekpeye. This is because we disagree to harm whatever in the name of political sycophant”

” the state government should know that Avengers is not for problems. We are not here to harass people or to do things that is not inline with the government. But people recognises us as bad people, we are not bad people. Because we have been having attacks with GTF and all rest of government agents”

Meanwhile, governor Nyesom Wike has directed the 23 Local Government Chairman in Rivers state to within two weeks ensure that highways that run into their Local Government Areas are safe for commuters and motorists. Governor Wike gave the directives during the security meeting at the Government House in Port Harcourt. He particularly directed them to clear overgrown weeds that has become hide out for cultist, kidnappers, and arm rubbers on those highways. He said the weeds along the major highways are contributing to security treat on the road, especially along Emohua axis of the East West road.
