We’ll carry out sensitization campaign on flooding – Tell Inameti

Chairman of the Nigeria Institute of Town Planners in Rivers State , Mr Tete Inameti ,says the institute will carry out sensitization campaign on flooding next month.

Mr Inameti stated this in an interview with our reporters in Port Harcourt.

According to him, the awareness campaign which will be in partnership with relevant stakeholders in the state is aimed at informing the public about the importance of a daring development plans of the government on the flooding and urban development.

“What my organization normally does is just to sensitize members of the public in conducting town hall meetings. And we have already planned that by October we are conducting a town hall meeting at
Moscow road, so that members of the public will come. In this meeting,
we have invited Local Government officials and some traditional rulers
to come so that we will tell them exactly what Town Planners
institute does”

Mr Tete Enameti also advised the public to be very cautious of the
areas they intend to develop, stating that they should only develop
areas that is approved by the government.

“Members of the public should be cautious of where they are about to
develop their properties. Most of the property developments we are
having here and there are not approved”

In another development, and on the environmental matters, there is the
need for government at all levels to renew action in tackling climate
change. This was the message in an awareness walk held in Port Harcourt as part of the 7 days global action on climate change which
started last Friday in over 150 countries with the hash tag “climate
strike on their banners. School children, organizations, including
government agencies all matched from GRA junction to Isaac Borrow Park
in Port Harcourt. They all wore face marks, chanting climate justice.

Convener of the hash tag climate strike in Port Harcourt Smith
Nwokocha said they will continue to demand for proactive steps for
climate change.
