We will do more on road construction- Abia Govt.

Abia State government has assured that it will maximise the dry season window to accelerate construction works across the state to alleviate the suffering experienced by the people during the rainy season.

 

The Commissioner for Works,Mr Bob Ogu gave the assurance while addressing newsmen, Tuesday, on the completion of the 2.1 kilometre road, first phase of construction work at Aba road Umuahia.

He said that the state government had streamlined roads that would be completed before the rainy season adding that contractors are back on site.

“There are about six roads that the state government is  targeting. The roads are Eziukwu road, Osusu  road, Aba-Owerri road and  Immaculate road in Aba. Emelogu road is on stream and we are looking for how to connect  Emelogu to Ngwa road by East to ease traffic on the  Ogbor Hill side of the road to Ikot Ekpene.

 

“The contractors are back on site. We are trying to see how we can do the drainage, so that when the rains come those roads would have been done,” Ogu said.

The Commissioner expressed satisfaction over the completion of the first phase of  Aba road in the state capital, adding that the road had been designed to last for at least 10 years.

He disclosed that the second phase of Aba road stretching from the Old Umuahia railway crossing to the Ubakala Express way would be realized before the rains set in adding that the soil strength had been tested to ensure that the road would accommodate all manner of traffic.
