The Transition Committee Chairman of Ikwuano Local Government Area, Hon Stanley Ojigbo, has disclosed that over thirty traditional route paths have been discovered from Ini and Obot Akara Local Government Areas of Akwa Ibom state into Ikwuano, thereby, posing a big risk to the people of the area.
Interacting with National Ambassador Newspapers in his office, Ojigbo lamented the pressure coming from Akwa Ibom state, saying that their vigilante group now work round the clock just to keep a watch on those entering the state through the Ikwuano.
According to him,the kind of pressure mounted daily on the Ikwuano borders by vehicles coming from Akwa Ibom, leaves everyone worried and the need to put the borders under tight lock.
Hon Ojigbo said already they have put trees to blockade these root paths,so as to end the movement of vehicles through them, but it still seems security agents are frustrating their efforts especially at the border along Umuahia-Ikot ekpene road, with the way they grant pass to people.
He added that the area had to take their destiny in their hands by instituting a local vigilante group to help them man their borders tightly, stating that since then, they have been returning several Dangote trucks conveying people.
The council boss further frowned at the manner vehicles come from Akwa Ibom, stating that it shows how porous and unserious the state is in the fight against Covid 19.
While reiterating the Federal Government’s lockdown order that starts from 8pm each day till dawn, the Ikwuano boss maintained that the council is strict with this directive, warning that any vehicle caught within this period of time, would be impounded and the drivers apprehended before the Ikwuano mobile court.
He, however, advised Ikwuano indigenes to wake up to the call of adhering strictly to the guidelines outlined by the government in containing the spread of covid 19, saying that the coronavirus has turned out to be a fight for everyone and the need to take up responsibility approach in containing the spread of the virus becomes imperative.
