Rt.Hon. Chikwendu Kalu, (Abia House of Assembly, Speaker)
Abia State House of Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Chikwendu Kalu has assured abians that the incoming 7th Assembly would concentrate more on oversight functions and making economic development based laws that would better the lots of Abians.
He said that the Assembly is equally looking forward to making laws that would make Abia an investment hub and tourist attraction for foreigners and as well ensure that the Abia Enyimba economic city is fully realized as soon as possible which according to him would create about 70,000 jobs.
The number three citizen of the State who stated this in an interaction with journalists recently while x-raying the overview of the 6th House of Assembly, adjudged that they did well in lawmaking and representation but failed in their oversight functions that is aimed at ensuring proper implementation of bills that were passed into laws.
He expressed worries on the slow rate of implementation of their resolutions and laws by the executive arm and stressed that they must pay utmost attention to their primary role of oversight when the 7th Assembly comes on board.
While commending the efforts of the outgoing Assembly in maintaining high level of legislative decorum in their relationship with the other arms of the government, Kalu noted that the Assembly under his watch inherited a terrible system which his administration has redressed.
Highlighting some of the achievements of the 6th Assembly in terms of infrastructural development, the Speaker, however, pointed out that the House of Assembly Constituency office complex was completed by his administration, provided a 450kva generating set, refurbished some offices and convenience among other projects accomplished adding that the Abia State House of Assembly Service Commission law passed by the 6th Assembly is paramount and would help facilitate the needed resources for the entire legislative workforce.
Kalu, therefore, urged Abians to always keep faith with the State House of Assembly especially the 7th House and the administration of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, assuring that the Executive and the legislative arms of the State government would work closely towards redefining the narratives of Abia State.
