We are making effort to encourage Women- INEC

Independent National Electoral Commission INEC says it is deliberately making efforts to encourage women to participate in the electioneering process in the commission in Rivers State. Obviously Nfanga says one of the ways is to give preference to pregnant women and nursing mothers during registration exercise in election days.

” during registration, we give preferences to nursing mothers and pregnant women. So if they turn to register, we make sure that they will be attended to earlier than others. And also on election day, we also look at for those category of people that are to be attended to earlier than others. I believe that this will also help more women to turn up “he stated.

He further said that the commission is working with security agencies to ensure that the election is peaceful.

” we are working with the security agencies. We had our regular meeting of the Inter Agency Consultative committee on election security. The security agency are up to it, they know what to do. We are working with them to ensure that the forthcoming elections will be peaceful.

He also advised youths to be free from violence ,and should peacefully go out and vote for the candidate of their choice on the day of election.
