Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has restated his administration commitment towards providing an ideal academic environment in Abia state University Uturu, with improved infrastructure and academic content in order to produce highly skilled man power.
Governor Ikpeazu stated this at Government House Umuahia, during a meeting with some Students Representatives from the Abia State University.
Ikpeazu maintained that the commitment of his administration is “to continuously push in a progressive manner to improve on infrastructure and academic content so that by the end of the day we can be sure that we get the best.
“That is a duty and we are working towards it”.
He reiterated the state government’s comittment to intensifying efforts in improving job creation in the state through the Enyimba Economic City project adding that the project is expected to provide 600,000 employment opportunities for the youths.
Ikpeazu who disclosed that state government would empower a set of 50 young entrepreneurs with seed money ranging from N250, 000 to N750, 000 to establish their businesses also revealed that the government would soon create Internet Parks in Aba, Umuahia and Ohafia.
He said that the government would equally set up Local Government Road Maintainance Committees made up of young engineers from the Tertiary Institutions across the state to deal with issues of potholes on Abia roads.
Governor Ikpeazu used the opportunity to announce that the state government would pay N10,000 out of the N25,000 Special Levy that the University Management had asked every student of ABSU to pay and assured the students that he would liaise with the assessment team of ABSU to provide regular water, conveniences and solar light to the institution within 60 days.
He commended the students for the ambience and peace they have allowed to reign in the school as well as their doggedness to study and tasked them on integrity and hard work.
In his remark, the Vice Chancellor of ABSU, Prof. Uche Ikonne said that the meeting had provided an avenue for the confidence of the students to interface with the governor
Ikonne thanked Governor Ikpeazu for his resolve to address the school’s challenges and promised that the management would not relent in supporting him.
Earlier in his speech,the Student’s Union President of ABSU, Mr John Nwakanma, whilet thankingthe Governor for inviting them to the meeting, appealed to him to incorporate the students affairs in the state government’s welfare plan.
